Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a gold pheon (arrowhead) point down, surmounted on the neck by a blue arrow.

Symbolism
Ultramarine blue and golden orange are colors traditionally associated with Aviation.  Elements of the design allude to the unit's numerical designation.  The arrow is representative of "1" (one); the arrow and pheon together represent "4" (four); and the pheon alone (simulating the Roman numeral V) represents "5" (five).  The pheon and arrow represent the swiftness and sureness of aircraft in flight and the blue refers to the sky.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 145th Combat Aviation Battalion on 23 March 1967.  It was redesignated for the 145th Aviation Regiment with the description and symbolism revised effective 17 November 1987.

Upon a wreath of the colors Or and Azure, a dragon's head Or, armed and langued Gules, garnished Vert, collared Azure, edged Or.

Symbolism

Shield

Ultramarine blue and golden orange are the colors traditionally associated with Aviation.  The pheon and arrow represent swiftness and accuracy of flight and the potency and prowess of aerial capabilities.  The division of the shield alludes to clouds, the sky, and the unit's theater of operation.

Crest

The oriental dragon commemorates the unit's combat service in Vietnam and its many decorations and honors.  The colors, red, yellow and green, recall the United States Army's Vietnam campaign streamer.  The dragon's head is collared blue to symbolize the Presidential Unit Citation.

Background
The coat of arms was approved for the 145th Aviation Regiment on 17 November 1987.  It was amended to add a crest on 23 September 1988.
